Suboxone Treatment

Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder

Residents of Louisiana and Mississippi can now receive treatment for opioid use disorder using medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

What is MAT?

MAT stands for Medication- assisted treatment. This treatment includes buprenorphine, which is a safe and effective method to help people with an opioid use disorder stop using prescription pain medications, heroin, and other opioids.

How Does Mat Work?

Medication-assisted treatment works by reducing cravings in the brain caused by a chemical imbalance. When used properly, the medications have no effect on function and provide a safe way to stop potentially dangerous substance use.

MAT treatment:

• Reduces symptoms of withdrawal.

• Provides help with recovery.

• Improves quality of life and overall health and wellbeing.

• Helps you live your life and feel like yourself again.

How Do I Know If I Qualify for MAT?

Those who are from Louisiana or Mississippi who are over 18 years old can qualify for treatment using MAT for opioid use disorder. Contact The Healing Clinics to find out more.

Why Buprenorphine?

Buprenorphine is an oral medication approved for office-based treatment of opioid use disorder. Buprenorphine blocks the effects of other opioids.  Buprenorphine offers several benefits to people for whom treatment in a methadone clinic is not preferred or is less convenient. Naloxone, often used with buprenorphine for MAT treatment, has poor absorption and is added to prevent the misuse of the medication. Treatment with buprenorphine is safe and effective.

Buprenorphine used with Naloxone is an important part of medication-assisted treatment. Patients will work closely with the MAT provider to achieve their goals.

What Patients Should Expect

Before starting treatment, patients will have an Overview Appointment. During that appointment, the patient will receive a physical exam and lab tests. The MAT healthcare team will then review instructions for Induction and determine a follow-up plan for stabilization and maintenance with the patient. Once the initial physical exam and consultation are completed, the patient can use telemedicine or in-person appointments, whichever is more convenient.
